Personal health and well being cannot be over-emphasized. That’s why, at Bliss, we focus on the whole person and your experience not only here at our spa but in your daily life. This is just one reason we identify so strongly with and are thrilled to support the local Long Beach non-profit, Love Beyond Limits. We wanted to take this opportunity to share a little bit more about them.
Love Beyond Limits believes that a unified effort between the school system and its surrounding community, working in concert with families, can help to bring about a change that will impact our world in a positive way both now and in years to come.
LBL has created a 13-Stones program aimed at preventing juvenile justice intervention by promoting positive coping skills, sense of self, and effective decision making, as well as by strengthening and supporting the child’s core family unit. This program is designed to help youth identify the warning signs and trouble spots in communication, unhealthy personal care practices and toxic relations as they navigate their world, with the confidence and security of knowing how to effectively manage life issues.
The 13 Stones are love, respect, social skills, hygiene, image, self-esteem, the role of a mother, the role of a father, the role of a child, education, abuse, meditation and accountability.
Maleka Long (now Maleka Chris), a single mother of four daughters, founded the organization in 2010 as a small, fun and safe fireside chat group for young girls, ages 7-17. In an effort to start a group home, she formally organized Love Beyond Limits, Inc. in 2013 and the small group evolved into a grassroots non-profit community youth mentoring organization. They believe that what sets them apart is their desire to “Love Beyond Limits” in everything they do. Love Beyond Limits was selected as the 2019 California Nonprofit of the Year in the 64th District.
Each year, Love Beyond Limits seeks out and serves similarly focused organizations in the area like the Ronald McDonald House of Long Beach. They also sponsor an annual beach cleanup and a fundraising dinner and comedy show called “Laugh 4 Love”. Usually, the holidays find LBL hosting its annual interactive community event called “Beyond Community” and providing Thanksgiving meals to attendees. LBL adopts families at Christmas and passes out hundred of toys to families in need, all with limited resources.
Through their relationships with area businesses, other organizations and community representatives, they send young people to a weeklong camp at UCI to learn financial literacy and a month-long camp on the campus of Villanova High School to attend Computer Science, leadership and humanities courses. This summer, LBL will host a week-long wellness retreat for 24 young ladies.
We applaud Love Beyond Limits. Join us by contacting them to offer your help, donate or make an appointment at Bliss on May 13 to support them, as well! Bliss will donate 13% of proceeds from May 13 to Love Beyond Limits.
